Most of us are familiar with the finishes the Mint offers for its coins: Brilliant Uncirculated, Proof, Reverse Proof, Burnished, etc.
Accordingly, the first of the two coins is a typical Silver Eagle Reverse Proof; that is, a coin whose content is 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, with frosted fields and mirrored devices.
A Unique Finish
The “Enhanced Mint State” finish, however, features fields that are “lightly frosted” (using new laser technology), elements that are “brilliantly polished,” and a third finish: “heavily frosted” inscriptions. The three contrasting finishes add extraordinary definition to the coin’s design. The Enhanced Uncirculated coin will be available from the Mint only as part of the 2-coin set.
Both coins come from the Mint’s West Point facility and carry the W Mint Mark. Each is US legal tender, with a face value of $1. Both are encapsulated and have the West Point label affixed.
