In 1965, the U.S. government discontinued the minting of U.S. dimes and quarters with 90% silver content, instead switching to cheaper cupro-nickel coins with less intrinsic value. Though not designated as bullion coins, 90% Silver U.S. Coins are valued for their bullion content. When minted, a bag of pre-1964 coins contained 723 oz of silver. However, while in circulation, edge wear reduced the amount of silver to approximately 715 oz. These Silver Coins are easy to transport, convenient, and a safe investment, because they will never be worth less than their face value, regardless of the price of silver.
