The 1 oz. American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States. First issued by the United States Mint in 1986, each Silver American Eagle contains 1 troy ounce of pure.999 fine silver—the purest silver ever used in any U.S. coin—and bears a face value of $1. They are classified as legal tender and are guaranteed by the United States government as to their silver content, weight, and purity.
