Additionally, each has been designated “First Strike,” indicating that they were among the first coins struck by the Mint. The Enhanced Mint State Eagle has been designated MS—signifying a very special bullion specimen.
The Various Finishes
Most of us are familiar with the different finishes the Mint offers for its coins: Brilliant Uncirculated, Proof, Reverse Proof, Burnished, etc.
Accordingly, the first of the two coins is a typical Silver Eagle Reverse Proof; that is, a coin whose content is 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, with frosted fields and mirrored devices.
A New Finish
The “Enhanced Mint State” finish, however, features fields that are “lightly frosted” (using new laser technology), elements that are “brilliantly polished,” and a third finish: “heavily frosted” inscriptions. The three contrasting finishes add extraordinary definition to the coin’s design. The Enhanced Mint State coin will be available from the Mint only as part of the 2-coin set.
Both coins come from the Mint’s West Point facility and carry the W Mint Mark. Each is US legal tender, with a face value of $1. Both are encapsulated and have the Flag Label affixed.
These 2013-W Silver Eagle West Point 2-Coin Set Reverse Proof / Enhanced Uncirculated PCGS PR70 - MS70 First Strike Certified coins—with the flag label—are already unique and limited in population due to their First Strike status. And, as time goes by, they cannot help but become more and more rare.
